Coffee to go: Xiaomi Mijia Portable Coffee Machine makes 400 servings on one battery charge

Coffee pressure: 20 bar and up to 400 cups of Mijia coffee

The new Xiaomi Mijia portable coffee maker offers lovers of high-quality espresso the opportunity to prepare their favorite drink on the go, with a powerful working pressure of 20 bar and a 7500 mAh battery. This stylish cylindrical device reinterprets traditional travel accessories, replacing an ordinary thermos with a full-fledged espresso brewing system in any road conditions.

The new product of the Mijia sub-brand is created for real coffee lovers who often have to be on the go. Structurally, the device is made in the form of a tall, strong cylinder with a length of 245 mm. It can easily be placed in a backpack or a standard car windshield. An important quality of the device is its versatility: the Xiaomi pocket coffee maker can make coffee both from standard portioned capsules and from classic ground coffee, which is poured inside thanks to a special adapter from the kit.

Characteristics and physics of the brewing process

The uniqueness of the compact device lies in the built-in miniature electromagnetic pump, which creates an impressive working pressure of 20 bar. To understand the scale: a classic stationary home carafe coffee machine works under a pressure of up to 15 bar. The extra 20 bars guarantee flawless creation of a dense aromatic foam (cream) even in forest or office conditions. An economical but effective ceramic heater is responsible for the rapid heating of the liquid, capable of bringing the poured water to an ideal 92 ° C in 45 seconds. This indicator protects the espresso from excessive bitterness. Moreover, the device supports the technology of careful cold extraction – an ideal functionality for creating refreshing summer drinks.

Autonomy and energy efficiency

An array of built-in lithium batteries with a total capacity of 7500 mAh is responsible for the autonomous power supply of the device. However, in practice, the autonomy of the device depends on the temperature characteristics of the source liquid:

  • Filling hot water: if you pour hot water from a standard thermos, the system only uses the charge to pump the espresso with the pump. This allows the gadget to dispense up to 400 cups of invigorating drink without recharging.
  • Cold water filling: heating water by the device’s own efforts is extremely energy-consuming, due to which the total autonomy of the device drops to only 3 full cups of brewed coffee in one cycle of battery operation.

To compensate for high energy consumption, manufacturers have added fast charging with a Type-C connector with a capacity of 45 W. The coffee maker can accumulate energy from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes, and the total 100% full charge cycle will be completed in 80 minutes. You can recharge the battery both in the car and from a standard modern power bank.

Derived configuration

The machine received a reliable IP55 moisture-proof case, which excludes its damage from light rain, fog or carelessly spilled coffee. The engineers did not skimp on the original equipment, putting all the necessary accessories for trips in the box:

  • Reliable case-cover for storage;
  • A convenient ergonomic stand;
  • Cleanable metal filter for fine grinding of coffee beans;
  • Precise measuring spoon-dispenser;
  • Two-layer high-quality thermal cup made of hygienic stainless steel, tightly connected to the base of the product.

Market release and price

The development debuted through the company’s crowdfunding ecosystem in China. You can already buy a portable travel espresso coffee maker at a promotional price of about UAH 3,500 ($82).

The gadget is most attractive for active motorists, tourists, traveling professionals or those who like to drink espresso on the way to work. It is several times cheaper than traditional portable horn counterparts from big coffee brands and allows you to significantly save on visits to roadside coffee shops due to high-quality homemade espresso.
