Xiaomi has officially introduced the Redmi Note 17 series of smartphones in China, which focuses on a significant increase in battery capacity compared to the previous Note 15 series, as well as the use of new chipsets.

The base Redmi Note 17 has an impressive 7-inch display. It’s a 120Hz OLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2396 pixels and a peak brightness of 1800 nits. The device supports working with the sensor even when the screen gets wet or while wearing gloves.

The Note 17 Pro model, despite a more compact diagonal of 6.83 inches, is equipped with a higher quality panel: 12-bit color (versus 8-bit for the standard version) and a resolution of 1280 x 2772 pixels. The peak brightness of the Pro version reaches 3500 nits. DC dimming and 3840 Hz PWM dimming are also provided.

Battery characteristics and autonomy

The standard Redmi Note 17 is equipped with an 8000 mAh battery, designed for 1600 charge cycles, which is about 5 years of operation without loss of capacity with daily charging!  With an energy density of 821 Wh/l, it can provide up to 22 hours of short video playback or 10 hours of navigation. Supports 45W charging and 22.5W reverse charging.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro has an even larger battery – 9000 mAh. The silicon-carbon battery technology supports 67W fast charging as well as 22.5W reverse charging.

Hardware platform and version differences

The base Note 17 is powered by Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, complemented by 6/8 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X) and up to 256 GB of internal memory (UFS 2.2). There is a slot for microSD. The professional model received Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, 8/12 GB RAM and internal storage up to 512 GB (UFS 3.1 for older models), but without a memory card slot.

In the multimedia department, the Note 17 Pro benefits from stereo speakers, while the standard Note 17 comes with a mono speaker.

Casing protection

If the basic Redmi Note 17 has basic IP65 water protection, the Pro version offers serious IP68/IP69/IP69K protection, allowing you to survive even direct exposure to jets of water. The Pro version is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has been dropped tested from heights of up to 3 meters.

Cost and availability

The new items are already on sale in China. Cost varies depending on memory configuration:

What to choose: Redmi Note 17 or Redmi Note 17 Pro?

The Redmi Note 17 series is aimed at those who value maximum autonomy in any conditions. While the Pro model offers excellent water protection and a more powerful screen, the basic version attracts with a microSD slot and an impressive battery capacity. The global version of the models may differ in camera and battery characteristics, so it is recommended to keep an eye on local announcements, but if smartphones with the same characteristics and price are delivered to Europe, then the Redme Note 17 series will look very attractive.
