Whatismymovie will find a movie even by a single phrase from it
22.03.16The Valossa company has created a service called Whatismymovie.com, the purpose of which is to search for films by a brief description of the plot, scene, or even by individual famous phrases from them.
For now, the site is operating in demo mode and supports only English, but even taking this into account, the results it produces are quite satisfactory, at least when it comes to more or less famous films. For example, if you type “A dog is waiting for its owner at the station” in the search bar (again, in English), then the very first movie in the list will be “Hachiko”. Well, asking for the phrase “Hasta la vista, baby” will certainly lead us to the second part of “Terminator”, in which it, in fact, was heard. At the same time, anyone can participate in the development of the project by marking any of the results given to them as relevant or vice versa.
In its work, the service relies on Deep Content technology, which analyzes everything that can describe video content – transcripts of actors’ speech, visual images, etc. This information is automatically converted into metadata, which is then processed by a cognitive machine learning system that understands search queries in natural language . By the way, you can not only enter them from the keyboard, but also dictate out loud if you have a microphone (works only in Google Chrome). Currently, the Whatismymovie.com database contains about 40,000 English-language films released up to and including 2015.
