Starlink V5 Review: An Incredibly Lightweight Dish You Can’t Buy
15.07.26
SpaceX has officially unveiled the Starlink V5 terminal, which has become noticeably more compact and lighter than its predecessor V4. The new product demonstrates serious technological progress, approaching the dimensions of the portable Mini model, while retaining all the key advantages for home use.
Characteristics and dimensions of Starlink V5
The new generation of satellite antenna has changed significantly in physical parameters. The 2026 antenna measures 30.6 x 38.4 cm (12.05 x 15.12 inches) and weighs only 1.1 kg (2.4 lb). By comparison, the previous V4 model weighed 2.9 kg (6.4 lb).
Significant changes also affected energy efficiency: electricity consumption was reduced by 50%, averaging from 35 to 50 W. This makes the device an ideal solution for rural residents using solar panels or batteries.

Performance and reliability features
Engineers have significantly improved wind resistance: the device can now withstand gusts up to 99+ mph (vs. 60 mph for the V4). This brings the home kit to a level of equipment previously only available in more expensive marine versions.
Antenna sizes Starlink V5 vs V4
Despite the technological breakthrough in design, peak data download speeds have been slightly reduced: to 375+ Mbps versus 400+ Mbps for the previous generation. However, the actual connection speed still depends on the network load, remaining on average at 220 Mbit/s.
Price and terms of use
Currently, the Starlink V5 terminal is available only in certain locations and exclusively on a rental basis. It is important to note that the V4 model can be purchased as personal property (for example, on Amazon for $349, which is approximately 13,400 UAH) and used on an ongoing basis, while the V5 is provided for a monthly subscription fee. Although the dimensions of the antenna make it compact, the manufacturer does not recommend using the V5 while moving.
