Motorola 2027 Flagships to Feature Official GrapheneOS Support

Flagship Motorola smartphones scheduled for release in 2027 will officially receive support for GrapheneOS. This is a modified version of Android that strips away Google services while maintaining compatibility with standard Android apps and providing a significantly higher level of security.

What Is GrapheneOS on Motorola Devices

Users will be able to purchase a smartphone with the pre-installed Motorola Android skin and then switch to GrapheneOS if desired. The collaboration between the manufacturer and the system developers has made the porting process much more reliable: notably, Motorola itself performs a significant portion of the work required to adapt the OS to its hardware.

Specifications and Hardware Base

New devices will be powered by top-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. According to the GrapheneOS developers, the choice of flagship-level chipsets is driven by their high CPU and GPU performance, as well as the presence of necessary isolated components on the SoC for the full implementation of security features.

2027 Model Lineup

The first model to support the secure GrapheneOS system will be the direct successor to the Motorola Signature device. Following that, the ability to switch to GrapheneOS will be extended to new generations of foldable smartphones:

  • Motorola Signature (successor);
  • Motorola Razr Fold;
  • Motorola Razr Ultra 2026.

Features and Support

An important aspect is that all specified smartphones will meet or exceed the official technical requirements of GrapheneOS. A significant bonus is the promise of “full support” with updates for seven years.

Integration of GrapheneOS with official support is a significant step for privacy-focused users. The collaboration between the manufacturer and the open-source firmware developers eliminates many of the issues that typically arise when manually installing third-party OSs on Android smartphones.
