Sony updates PlayStation 5 main menu for easier navigation

Sony has started gradually rolling out a refreshed interface for the PlayStation 5, designed to make console navigation more intuitive and user-friendly. The main screen now features updated navigation that partially echoes the PlayStation 4 layout while keeping familiar controls intact.

New control panel

The redesign does not involve a complete overhaul — themes for the console are still unavailable. However, a new panel has appeared in the upper left corner of the screen, replacing the old “Games” and “Media” tabs. Users now have five clearly separated sections, making navigation simpler and reducing unnecessary actions.

Sections and quick access

The menu includes:

  • PlayStation Plus
  • PlayStation Store
  • Games
  • Game Library
  • Media

You can switch between sections using the L1 and R1 buttons, allowing instant access to categories without scrolling through long lists.

User optimization

The new interface streamlines the process of finding content. You no longer need to scroll through the entire list of games to open the library or store — simply select the relevant section. This organization saves time and makes interaction with the console more comfortable.

First impressions

Early users who gained access to the new menu mostly give positive feedback. Screenshots shared on social media show a neat interface update ready for a wider rollout.

Availability for everyone

The exact date when the update will be available to all users is still unknown. Initially, testing was limited to participants in the beta program, but some players have reported receiving the refreshed menu without officially taking part.
