Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra will receive the long-awaited new 16MP selfie camera

The long-awaited upgrade: Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra will receive a new selfie camera

The Samsung Galaxy S27 series of flagships may finally address the obsolescence of selfie cameras that dates back to the Galaxy S23 Ultra. For 4 years now, the selfie camera on Samsung flagships has not changed. Now, according to insiders, the Pro and Ultra models in the S27 series will receive a new generation sensor.

What will change in the cameras of the Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra

For a long time, the front camera of Samsung flagships remained unchanged. The distant Galaxy S22 Ultra used a 40-megapixel sensor (1/2.82 inches, f/2.2). However, in 2023, the company downgraded, installing a 12-megapixel module with a smaller sensor (1/3.2 inch) in the S23 Ultra, which migrated unchanged from model to model, right up to the current Galaxy S26 Ultra.

According to a GalaxyClub report, this will change in 2027: the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra will be equipped with a new 16-megapixel front camera. While the technical details of the sensor have not yet been revealed, there are speculations that Samsung may introduce a square sensor. Similar to the iPhone 17 Pro, this will allow you to shoot videos and photos without the need to physically rotate the smartphone when switching screen orientation.

Expected characteristics and innovations

In addition to the updated front camera, the following information about the upcoming line is known:

  • Display: All four models in the series are rumored to feature Privacy Display technology (previously exclusive to the S26 Ultra), which protects content on the screen from being viewed by unauthorized persons.
  • Telephoto: It is known that Samsung may abandon the use of a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom in the S27 Ultra, replacing it with digital zoom capabilities.

It is worth noting that the question of the presence of a 16-megapixel camera in more budget versions – Galaxy S27 and S27+ – remains open.

Release date and pricing

The release of the Samsung Galaxy S27 series is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027 – between January and March. At the moment, the current generation of flagships (Galaxy S26 Ultra) is available for purchase on Amazon for $1,199 (equivalent to approximately 45,600 hryvnia when converted).

Will a 16MP selfie camera be a deciding factor for buyers?

If the information is confirmed, Samsung will seriously update the front camera for the first time in four years. The introduction of a new sensor combined with advanced display technologies could be a key advantage for those planning to upgrade to new flagships in early 2027.
