Neo Geo AES+ by SNK and Plaion Replai: iconic console returns with HDMI, cartridges and modern features

Companies SNK and Plaion Replai have unveiled a reimagined version of the classic Neo Geo AES home console. The updated system is named Neo Geo AES+ and combines the original hardware concept with modern connectivity options and basic usability improvements.

Classic platform in a modern format

The key upgrade is the addition of an HDMI output supporting up to 1080p resolution. This allows original Neo Geo games to run on modern TVs without additional devices or complex adapters. At the same time, the developers have retained the AV output, ensuring compatibility with CRT televisions and retro display setups.

The device also includes functional controls in the form of DIP switches located on the bottom of the chassis. These allow users to adjust system language, display settings, and certain operating modes. In addition, memory card support has been implemented for saving game progress, along with a low-power mode.

Two configurations at launch

Neo Geo AES+ will be available in two versions. The standard model comes in black, is priced at $250, and includes an arcade joystick. The anniversary model, marking the 35th anniversary of the platform, comes in a white finish and is priced at $350. It includes a joystick, a memory card, and a limited edition Metal Slug cartridge.

Updated cartridge game lineup

Alongside the console, a series of ten cartridges with updated versions of classic titles is planned. Among them is The King of Fighters 2002. Each cartridge will cost around $90 and will form part of a separate collectible series expanding the platform’s ecosystem.

Market launch

Shipping for Neo Geo AES+ is scheduled to begin on November 12, 2026.
