Microsoft Copilot PC is a new class of laptops with generative artificial intelligence
21.05.24
Microsoft is making a push to bring AI to laptops. The company introduced a new brand, Copilot+ PC. He will need to emphasize that Windows laptops have built-in hardware resources to handle AI tasks and support AI features in the operating system.
Of course, as part of this branding, laptops from the company that develops the popular OS will also be released.
The AI functions will work thanks to the neural processor that is included in the laptops. The mainRecall function should use artificial intelligence to create a “photographic memory” with the ability to search everything that the User did and saw on the screen of his PC.
It includes recording what is done in applications, tracking communication during meetings, remembering all the websites a user has visited, and the like. Everything you do on your PC is displayed on a scrollable timeline. You can also search for live meetings and videos thanks to Live Captions, which transcribe and even translate the language.
Microsoft promises that the revocation index remains local and private on the device. It will be possible to pause recording and delete individual content
PCs with Copilot+ will run more than 40 artificial intelligence models as part of Windows 11 to power these new features. Microsoft’s built-in AI assistant, Copilot, will also support the GPT-4o model.
Copilot+ PC requirements
Like Intel’s Ultrabooks, the Copilot+ PC has specific hardware requirements. They must have an NPU unit, at least 16 GB of RAM and an SSD with a capacity of at least 256 GB. Arm versions based on Qualcomm processors should provide up to 15 hours of battery life while surfing the web.
Such systems will be offered by Microsoft itself as part of the Surface line, and they will also be released by key partners such as Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, Acer and Asus.
While the company is making a big push to bring Arm chips to Windows laptops, laptops with Intel and AMD chips will also have these AI features.
