Mercedes-Benz EQS after the update: up to 926 km on a single charge and the transition to 800 volts

Mercedes-Benz has introduced a heavily updated version of its all-electric sedan EQS, which first entered the market in 2021. The key achievement is a significantly increased driving range of up to 926 km under the WLTP cycle, representing a 13% improvement over its predecessor. With this update, the EQS becomes one of the longest-range electric vehicles in the premium segment.

One of the main innovations is the transition to an 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging at up to 350 kW. According to the manufacturer, just 10 minutes of charging can restore up to 320 km of range. For compatibility with 400-volt charging stations, the battery automatically splits into two sections, maintaining maximum possible charging speed even on older infrastructure.

Technological breakthrough: new batteries and optimized drivetrains

The battery capacity has increased to 122 kWh thanks to the use of silicon-carbon anodes, which significantly improve energy density. Mercedes has also reduced cobalt usage in line with its sustainability strategy. Changes also affect the powertrain: a two-speed transmission is now used on the rear axle, improving acceleration dynamics and efficiency at high speeds.

In all-wheel-drive versions, the front electric motor operates in booster mode with a quick-disconnect system to save energy. Regenerative braking power has increased to an impressive 385 kW, minimizing the use of mechanical brakes in most scenarios. Engineers emphasize that the scale of improvements is so extensive that the updated EQS can almost be classified as a new vehicle.

Digital luxury: MB.OS system and AI capabilities

The interior features a 141-centimeter MBUX Hyperscreen display running on the latest MB.OS platform. The system is integrated with AI from Microsoft and supports advanced voice control. The user interface has become more flexible, offering smartphone-like logic, real-time 3D navigation, and support for bidirectional charging such as V2G and V2H.

Other premium options include adaptive air suspension that predicts road conditions, micro-LED lighting, HEPA filtration, and even heated seat belts. A base EQS 400 version has also been added with a more attractive price point. The model will go on sale in Europe this year, with a starting price of €94,403.
