Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe: Dark Middle Ages and a new fear system
17.07.26
Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe promises to be the darkest and most technological chapter of the popular Ubisoft franchise.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe details
Hexe marks a departure from the bright visual palette of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The developers are betting on a gloomy atmosphere and a deep visual narrative. An interesting feature is the complete rejection of elements of magic – despite the “witch” theme, the game strives for maximum realism. According to preliminary information, the main character will be Anika, who is probably a descendant of the legendary Ezio Auditore.
Game mechanics and gameplay
The key innovation will be the developed fear system, which ideologically inherits the mechanics from DLC about Jack the Ripper to Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Players will be able to influence opponents by inducing them to panic: under the influence of this condition, enemies begin to lose accuracy, make mistakes and may even run away from the battlefield.
The action of the game will unfold in the open world of Germany, divided into regions of three types: forests, cities and villages. Research will be hampered by the high level of suspicion of the locals towards foreigners, which will force the player to be careful. Also, a lot of attention will be paid to the sound design, which helps to track enemies without visual markers.
Release date and price
According to preliminary information from insiders, the internal release of the project is scheduled for June 2027. The game is being developed for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC platforms. An important nuance for PC users will be the use of Denuvo anti-piracy protection. The game has a PEGI 18 age rating.
At the moment, Ubisoft plans to release three editions of the project are known:
| Publication type | Cost |
| Standard | $69.99 ($69.99 / UAH 2810) |
| Advanced | $89.99 ($89.99 / UAH 3615) |
| Collectable | $119.99 ($119.99 / UAH 4820) |
If dark settings and deep stealth gameplay are your thing, the project looks like one of Ubisoft’s most ambitious experiments in recent years. The absence of magic and emphasis on authenticity, supported by atmospheric sound, can give the series a breath of fresh air, which many lacked in the last parts of the franchise.
