Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: remake with a reworked world, new storylines and unexpected gameplay details

The updated version of one of the most iconic pirate-era entries in the series Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is gradually being revealed through new details. This is not a cosmetic upgrade, but a full-scale overhaul featuring modern visuals, new systems, and an expanded narrative, already shown in a closed format to a limited group of participants.

Closed demonstration and preparation for public reveal

On April 16, selected media representatives and content creators were shown around 30 minutes of updated gameplay. Early impressions suggest significantly improved visuals and a more refined gameplay structure compared to the original release.

The full public presentation is expected on April 23. On the same day, participants of the closed showcase will be allowed to publicly share materials and impressions, including gameplay footage.

Full-scale rebuild on a new engine

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is being developed as a full remake on an updated version of the Anvil engine. This enables substantial improvements to graphics, animations, and selected gameplay systems, bringing the project up to modern release standards.

The game is not targeting previous-generation consoles, highlighting its technical and visual demands.

Open world without increased scale

The size of the game world will remain unchanged, but its structure and density are being significantly reworked. The focus is on more engaging exploration and expanded naval and underwater activities.

Underwater segments have gained more variety, and exploration overall has become more event-rich and dynamic.

New mechanics and expanded content

One unusual addition will be the ability to keep pets aboard the ship — players will be able to choose, for example, a cat or a monkey to accompany the crew.

The content scope has also been significantly expanded:

  • new story chapters added
  • additional quest lines introduced
  • protagonist’s backstory reworked and deepened
  • increased importance and number of crew members
  • a separate storyline involving maroons (escaped slaves) will be included

Visual changes and commercial model

Attention has also been drawn to changes in the character’s appearance: the updated version of the protagonist differs noticeably from the 2013 original, sparking discussion among the community.

According to preliminary information, the game will be sold at full AAA release price without any discounted pricing model.

The release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is scheduled for July 9.
