Tomb Raider: Catalyst will be released with a delay: the game has been officially postponed to 2028

The wait for the new chapter of Lara Croft’s adventures will be long. Official representatives of Amazon Games have confirmed that the development of Tomb Raider: Catalyst needs more time and the release of the project has been postponed to 2028.

Details of the date change

The first speculations about a possible delay arose after it became known last month that the release of another expected project – a remake of the first part of the franchise Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis – was postponed to February 12, 2027. As the head of Amazon Games Jeffrey Gattis said in an interview with The Game Business resource, the company preferred to change the schedule of releases so as not to release two big games in one year. In addition, there is a possibility that the Crystal Dynamics team needs additional time to achieve a high level of project quality.

The plot of the game

According to the announcement that took place in December 2025, the place of action of Tomb Raider: Catalyst will be the northern part of India. Lara Croft will find herself at the epicenter of a mysterious mystical cataclysm that will awaken ancient mechanical guards created to guard countless treasures. The gameplay will be built around the heroine’s struggle with this new threat, while the situation will be complicated by competition with a brutal group of mercenary treasure hunters who have their own interests.

Platforms

The developers have confirmed that the title is being developed for current game systems. The game can be tested on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series platforms. Despite the long wait, fans of the series are counting on the fact that an additional year of development will allow the creators to implement all the intended mechanics and release a quality product.
