Threehalves centaur robot: a special robot in the style of Greek mythology

Developers from the company Satyress decided to move away from the usual formats of androids and dog robots, turning to Greek myths for inspiration. The result was a two-meter Threehalves centaur robot, created specifically to help specialists in extreme conditions.

Positioning

Threehalves is a specialized robot whose task is not to replace a person, but to give him superpowers. Its main role is to work in dangerous or hard-to-reach areas where the life of a professional is at risk. The slogan of the project reflects the philosophy of the developers: no job is worth human safety.

Design and characteristics

The robot has a very unusual appearance. Its design includes:

  • Two meters high.
  • Four limbs for locomotion.
  • Strong torso.
  • A brutal “head” with horns and glowing eyes, in which cameras are integrated.

Tools for work

The robot’s uniqueness lies in its modular hands. As a centaur does not have such permanent brushes. Depending on the task, the device is equipped with interchangeable working tools, such as a chainsaw, drill or screwdriver. The modular design of the limbs allows for quick replacement of components or repairs in the field.

Remote control

The operator controls the centaur remotely using a special joystick. This excludes the need for the direct presence of a person in the work area. The compactness of the model makes it easy to transport the robots – two devices in a bent position can easily be placed in the body of a 1.70 m long pickup truck.

Safety first

Satyress paid special attention to measures of emergency stopping of the car. Any movement of the centaur can be interrupted with a raised palm gesture. For critical cases, a rigid emergency stop system is provided: when a “shot” is fired into one of the air tanks on the body, pneumatic brakes are activated, which instantly immobilize the robot.

Cost

To date, Satyress has not officially announced the release date of the Threehalves, nor the price of the device.
