The new Philips monitor offers 425 Hz, Fast IPS and 2K resolution

Philips has expanded its range of gaming monitors with the new 27M2N5500X model. The device is aimed at the gaming segment of the competition, where the performance of the display is often no less important than the computer’s characteristics. At the same time, the manufacturer tried to keep the cost of the novelty at the level associated with middle-class models.

The monitor received a 27-inch Fast IPS matrix with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. Unlike most gaming models, which are limited to a frequency of 240 or 360 Hz, here it is declared 400 Hz in standard mode and the possibility of overclocking up to 425 Hz.

High refresh rate

The main focus of Philips was on the speed of the display. The manufacturer claims a response time of 1 ms using the Gray-to-Gray method and 0.3 ms MPRT, which should reduce the effect of image smearing in dynamic scenes.

The monitor supports VRR variable refresh rate technology and is compatible with NVIDIA G-Sync, which reduces the likelihood of frame breaks at unstable FPS rates. In addition, the company’s Zero-Sense Sync Acceleration technology is used, which is designed to reduce input lag and faster image response to user actions.

Such a set of characteristics is aimed primarily at disciplines where even a small reduction in latency can affect the comfort of the game.

Options for working with the image

Despite the gaming orientation, Philips paid attention to the quality of color reproduction. The panel supports 10-bit color display, fully covers the sRGB space and reproduces about 97% of the DCI-P3 color range.

According to the manufacturer, each panel is factory calibrated to a Delta E accuracy of less than two. This allows you to use the monitor not only for games, but also for photo processing, video editing and other work that requires correct color rendering.

The maximum brightness reaches 350 nits, the static contrast ratio is 1000:1, and the presence of the VESA DisplayHDR 400 certificate allows you to reproduce HDR content, although this level of HDR corresponds to the basic standard.

A special set of software tools

The firmware includes several features geared towards competitive gaming. Among them is an intelligent on-screen sight that automatically changes color depending on the image on the screen, a digital enlargement of the Sniper Window image area and a system for increasing the brightness of dark scenes, which allows you to notice opponents faster in illuminated game locations.

Eye strain reduction technology is provided for long gaming sessions. The monitor supports blue light reduction mode and uses circular polarization, which should make long-term work behind the screen more comfortable.

The stand received a full set of adjustments

Philips equipped the monitor with an ergonomic stand with wide adjustment options. The user can change the height of the display within 130 mm, adjust the angle of inclination, rotate the screen horizontally and put it in portrait mode.

If necessary, the device can be mounted on a third-party bracket thanks to compatibility with the VESA 100×100 mm standard.

Connection options

One DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.1 connectors are provided for connecting external devices, which allows you to use the monitor not only with gaming computers, but also with current consoles. There is also a standard 3.5 mm audio jack for connecting a headset or external speakers.

Additionally, Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes are implemented, which allow simultaneous output of images from two signal sources.

Release date and price

At the first stage, Philips 27M2N5500X appeared exclusively on the Chinese market. The sale started through the JD.com site, where the monitor was valued at approximately $280.

Taking into account the combination of 2K resolutions, Fast IPS matrix, refresh rate up to 425 Hz and a set of gaming functions, the novelty occupies a niche between mass gaming monitors and much more expensive e-sports models. Philips has not yet announced when the device will appear in the markets of other countries.
