Samsung cancel Galaxy TriFold sales after 3 months release

Samsung is preparing to end sales of its first triple-foldable smartphone, the Galaxy TriFold, less than three months after its US launch. Sales will first be halted in South Korea, after which the device will disappear from US retail as stocks are sold out.

Limited Supply and Low Availability

Earlier, the South Korean publication Dong-A Ilbo reported the last shipment of the device for the domestic market, scheduled for March 17. Meanwhile, the official Samsung website has already stopped updating shipment information, and in the US, the model is listed as sold out.

The Samsung Galaxy TriFold smartphone was sold exclusively through the manufacturer’s own channels. According to sources, approximately 6,000 units have been sold in South Korea since its launch in December. In the US, some remnants were still available at select Samsung stores, but online stocks are almost depleted.

Reasons and Future Plans

High production costs are cited as one of the key reasons for the project’s demise. Rising component prices made the device uneconomical to produce, even while maintaining sales.

For comparison, Huawei has already released the second generation of its own three-section smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate, but its current version remains limited to the Chinese market.

Samsung’s head of mobile division, Won-Joon Choi, previously noted that the company has not yet decided on a successor. However, certain developments, including a larger display and a modified aspect ratio, may be used in future foldable models.

Design and Ergonomics

When folded, the Samsung Galaxy TriFold is noticeably thicker than most modern smartphones. This is expected: the dual-hinge, three-segment design increases the size. However, the device isn’t critically bulky—it’s even comparable in thickness to, or thinner than, the Samsung Galaxy Fold5, which was previously considered the norm for its class.

When unfolded, the smartphone transforms into a tablet with a diagonal of approximately 10 inches. All three sections appear thin, and the hinges feel rigid and reliable.

A distinct feature is that the flexible display folds completely inward and doesn’t remain open on the outside, unlike the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate.

Using the Samsung Galaxy TriFold

The device features textured back panels with a carbon fiber effect under a glossy finish. The power button is integrated with the fingerprint scanner, and the volume rocker is located next to it.

When using the device, it’s important to consider the folding mechanism: close the right side first, then the left. If you attempt to fold the device incorrectly, the system will issue a warning.

Due to its weight of over 300 grams and the way it’s distributed, using the smartphone with one hand is difficult. Operation often requires holding it with both hands or placing it on a surface. Typing is typically done on a split keyboard.

Screen and Usage Scenarios

The device’s main advantage is revealed when using the large display. When watching videos, almost the entire screen is used without noticeable black bars, which distinguishes this model from the Samsung Galaxy Fold7 with its more square aspect ratio.

The difference between 8 and 10 inches is noticeable in the usable area. Three apps can also be used simultaneously in landscape mode.

In portrait mode, the device resembles a magazine, making it convenient for reading long texts and web pages.
