Oppo’s ColorOS 16.1: AirDrop support, MindPilot AI and updated Live Space interface
18.05.26
The Oppo company has released the ColorOS 16.1 update based on Android 16, deciding to turn the usual smartphone interface into a full-fledged digital assistant. While other brands focus on standard system improvements, Oppo has introduced features that radically change the device’s usability and compatibility with other ecosystems.
Live Space Innovations
One of the most noticeable visual innovations was the Live Space element. This is Oppo’s conceptual answer to Apple’s dynamic island, but with an important amendment: the information panel has been moved to the bottom of the screen. This decision is dictated by the ergonomics of modern tall smartphones, allowing users not to reach up with their finger.
Live Space displays the activity of apps in real time: timers, music player or food delivery status. Thanks to the tight integration with Google Maps, the navigation route can now be tracked directly from the lock screen with simple swipes.
Interface features and visual changes
The update also affected the graphics engine of the system. One of the features was the Contour Glow effect – a soft interactive glow around active menu items. The design of built-in programs, such as “Camera”, has also been redesigned: translucent layers and floating control panels have appeared. This allows you to adjust the frame without covering the preview area with interface buttons.
All animations in the system now run on the updated ColorOS kernel, which provides smoother transitions and quick response to user actions.
AirDrop support
One of Oppo’s boldest moves was the integration of a data transfer protocol compatible with AirDrop. Thanks to the Quick Share feature, users can now send files to Apple devices without third-party messengers and cloud services. Also, the Audio Sharing function has been added to the system, which allows you to broadcast sound from a smartphone simultaneously to two pairs of Bluetooth headphones.

MindPilot AI
ColorOS 16.1’s artificial intelligence system was named MindPilot. It is based on modern language models ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Unlike simple text generation, MindPilot performs practical tasks:
- AI Bill Manager: a service for managing finances. The system automatically scans checks and receipts, forming a report on the user’s expenses and income.
- AI Menu Translation: a feature for travelers. The camera program is able to recognize menus in restaurants and translate them offline (requires a data package of 518 MB). It is noteworthy that AI is able to automatically convert menu prices into Ukrainian hryvnias.
Release date
The update has already started rolling out to flagship devices of the Find X9 series. Owners of Reno 15 and Find X8 smartphones will receive the firmware in the near future. As for the new products, the upcoming Find X9s and Find X9 Ultra models will come with ColorOS 16.1 right out of the box.
