Motorola is giving away Android 17 to everyone

Immediately after the presentation of the first build of Android 17 from Google in February of this year, Motorola quickly joined the development process and opened access to the beta testing program for its users. Anyone enrolled in the beta testing program can get the super-new Android 17 with advanced AI features on their smartphone and change their phone beyond recognition.

List of supported Motorola smartphones for Android 17

In addition to flagship models, the current register includes popular smartphones of the mid-price segment and even budget models of the Moto G series, including the recently released G86. At the moment, the full list of supported devices looks like this:

  • Flagships: Motorola Signature, Razr+, Razr 70 Ultra, Razr 60 Ultra, Razr+ (2025/2024), Razr 50 Ultra
  • Edge series: Edge 60 Pro, Edge 50 Ultra, Edge (2025)
  • Moto G series: Moto G57, Moto G57 Power, Moto G86 (and Power version), Moto G Stylus 5G (2026).

Inclusion in the testing program of the budget series demonstrates Motorola’s great desire to test the Android 17 architecture as much as possible.

It is important to remember that the number of participants in the testing program is limited. Users who want to be the first to try the latest Android 17 need to quickly register through the official portal of the Motorola brand community (Motorola Feedback Network).

Technical Risks of the Beta Version

But it should not be forgotten that installing the beta version of Android 17 is associated with certain risks. Early assemblies can lead to rapid battery discharge, instability of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules, sudden reboots, and generally critical system instability. It is also important to consider that returning to stable Android 16 will require a complete cleaning of the device’s memory, which will lead to the loss of all personal data and, in general, a complete reinstallation of all applications. Therefore, it is extremely important to make a backup copy of your entire smartphone before installing Android 17.

Procedure of participation in testing

To participate, you need to create an account in the Motorola community, fill out a profile and wait for an available form to appear in the testing section. It should be understood that submitting an application does not guarantee approval, as the selection of participants is carried out in several waves with a limited number of places. And not every smartphone model from the list available for Android 17 is allowed precisely in our EMEA region, to which Ukraine belongs. Once approved, the firmware arrives as a regular update.

Paradox of the tester

Expanding the list of budget devices for testing Android 17 looks like a gift to fans, but it imposes on them the role of free testers of raw builds of the operating system. Paradox: users loyal to the company, especially owners of flagship smartphones priced above $1,000, voluntarily accept the loss of stability of their gadgets for the opportunity to show off the new interface. This changes the status of the smartphone from a reliable tool to an expensive toy that constantly bugs, and the status of its owner – from a customer, who is carried in the hands, to an employee-tester of the Motorola company. And all this blurs the concept of a completely ready-to-use product, which is presented on the market and has a considerable price tag.

Why does this happen? Big vendors started beta testing of Android 17 abnormally early. Apparently, Google, sensing competition from other AIs, is in a hurry to introduce its neural network algorithms into the interface of smartphones. Already now, foreign forums are filled with reports on the operation of complex models of the Razr series with Android 17. And manufacturers, in turn, are in a hurry to outdo each other, choosing marketing hype and noise around raw, but fresh software.
