MacBook Neo is the most repairable Apple laptop
22.03.26
Apple introduced a budget laptop model – MacBook Neo. The device received a mobile processor A18 Pro and became one of the most affordable solutions in the company’s lineup.
According to iFixit, the new product also stands out for its improved repairability. This is the most repairable MacBook in about the last 14 years.
What’s changed in the design
One of the key changes was the battery. In the MacBook Neo, it is not glued to the case, as in previous models, but is fixed using a separate module with screws. A total of 18 fasteners are used, which complicates the process, but remains a more predictable and safe solution compared to glue.
Disassembling the device has also been simplified. Internal components have become more accessible: the display and keyboard are easier to replace, and the case structure provides less complicated access to the main components.
An additional role is played by software support. The Apple Repair Assistant utility works correctly with replaced components, which reduces restrictions on self-repair.
Limitations and Evaluation
At the same time, Apple has not completely abandoned its proprietary restrictions. The RAM and storage are still soldered to the board, which excludes their replacement or upgrade.
As a result, iFixit rated the device’s repairability at 6 out of 10. This is above average for the company’s laptops.
Market Positioning
The launch of the MacBook Neo was a notable market event. The release of a more affordable model from Apple has intensified competition in the segment and, according to analysts, may affect the price hike.
