Lenovo Googlebook 15 — a new era of laptops? The first Android laptop with Gemini

Google officially announced the Googlebook platform in May 2026 at the Android Show. It is a new category of laptops running on an Android-based operating system with deep integration of the Gemini artificial intelligence. Digital Citizen has presented detailed images of the Lenovo Googlebook 15, allowing for an in-depth look at the device’s design.

Positioning

Lenovo Googlebook 15 is the first laptop in a line of devices created through a partnership with five manufacturers: Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The core idea of the project is to run Android applications natively—without using emulators. Among the unique features is the Magic Pointer, which grants the mouse cursor intelligent context-aware actions.

Technical specs and design

The laptop’s exterior features a “Googlebook” inscription to the left below the keyboard, highlighting Google’s heavy involvement in the product’s development. A key feature is the hardware Gemini key (bearing the “G” logo), which replaces the search button familiar to Chromebook users. Also, the Caps Lock key has an additional diamond-shaped mark indicating extended functionality.

The functional keyboard includes 14 keys (F1–F14), plus Escape and an additional programmable button; notably, there is no standard numeric keypad, which is unusual for the 15-inch form factor. The screen area features an Android-style status bar, displaying battery, network status, notifications, and access to Gemini AI directly in the interface.

Interfaces and multimedia

A substantial set of ports is provided for peripherals: HDMI, USB-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack on the right, plus a card reader, another USB-C, and a full-sized USB-A on the left. The device design is optimized for comfort and cooling, with a ribbed surface on the underside. High-quality sound is provided by stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, located on the sides of the keyboard.

Release date

Lenovo is expected to officially introduce the device at IFA in September. The first retail units of the Googlebook are slated to hit the shelves in the fall of 2026. The Googlebook could represent a new stage in the evolution of Google laptops, offering tighter integration between Android and AI. If the platform meets expectations, it could carve out a niche between traditional Windows laptops and Chromebooks.
