The new Leapmotor D99 is the pinnacle of engineering thought from a Chinese start-up that is showing impressive growth. Built on the innovative LEAP 4.0 platform, this full-size SUV is positioned as something between a mobile office, a cozy living room and a functional family vehicle.

Leapmotor D99 is a flagship crossover designed to consolidate the brand’s success in the premium segment. Having significant dimensions (length 5280 mm with a wheelbase of 3110 mm), it competes with the largest players in the market of full-size SUVs. The main bet in this model is made on unprecedented flexibility of internal space and advanced computing power.

Technical specifications

The technical component of D99 impresses with the use of modern voltage standards and computing platforms. Air suspension with two-chamber cylinders and the CDC system is responsible for comfortable movement, smoothing out any unevenness of the road.

 EV vs EREV

The manufacturer will offer buyers two main power plant options:

• Pure Electric Vehicle (EV): Built on 1000-volt architecture. It is equipped with a CATL battery with a capacity of 115 kWh, which provides a range of up to 700 km and ultra-fast charging.
• Elevated Range Hybrid (EREV): Based on an 800-volt platform. Uses an 80.3 kWh battery and a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine-generator for on-the-go recharging.

Features of the interior

The 2+2+3 interior is the main attraction of the D99. The seats of the second row can turn 90 or 180 degrees, forming a zone for communication with the table. The front seats fold completely flush with the second row, forming a full bed. An intelligent control system based on large language models (VLA) allows you to communicate with the car using a natural voice.

Among the unusual “fishing mode” options: the third row of seats can be folded back when the trunk is open, turning into comfortable heated seats. A ceiling screen and a system for supplying purified oxygen to the cabin are also provided.

Release date and price

It is expected that the full-fledged start of sales and the appearance of the new product on the roads will take place in 2026. Given the company’s current dynamics (sales growth of more than 74% year-on-year), Leapmotor plans to rapidly scale up production of this model.

The cost of the flagship SUV in China starts from approximately UAH 953,000 ($22,000) in the basic configuration, if you use the battery rental scheme. However, the price of top modifications with a full set of functions and maximum battery capacity will be significantly higher.
