Huawei Pura X Max: a foldable hybrid between smartphone and tablet redefining mobile devices
22.04.26
Huawei has expanded the Huawei Pura 90 lineup with one of its most unconventional devices — Huawei Pura X Max. The model effectively establishes a new Wide Fold category, where a folded device in its expanded state closely resembles a compact tablet in both experience and functionality.
A new approach to the foldable form factor
The core idea behind Huawei Pura X Max is a departure from traditional aspect ratios in favor of a 16:10 internal display. When unfolded, the device feels closer to an iPad mini than to a conventional smartphone, which is especially noticeable when working with documents, reading, or watching videos without large black bars.
Inside, it features a 7.7-inch LTPO OLED display with WQHD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate, designed for both productivity and media consumption. The external 5.4-inch screen enables comfortable one-handed use while maintaining a wider format compared to most foldable smartphones.
The dimensions are 120×166.5×5.2 mm when unfolded and 120×85×11.2 mm when folded. The weight is 229 grams, which remains relatively moderate for this device class.
Flagship performance and battery life
Huawei Pura X Max is powered by the flagship Kirin 9030 Pro. Despite the complex folding mechanism, engineers managed to integrate a 6000 mAh battery — one of the highest capacities in the foldable segment.
The device supports 66 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging, ensuring fast power recovery even under heavy load on the large display.
Camera system focused on imaging technology
The camera setup is based on Huawei XMAGE. The main module features a 50-megapixel sensor, complemented by a periscope telephoto lens for optical zoom. This configuration targets versatile photography, from everyday shots to long-range zoom scenarios.
A device blurring the line between product categories

Huawei Pura X Max illustrates the direction in which foldable smartphones are evolving beyond niche devices and beginning to replace entire product categories. With its large display and flagship-level performance, it is designed for scenarios that previously required two separate devices — a smartphone and a tablet.
