Google Translate competitor Duolingo: new widgets for learning languages

Google Translate will become closer to Duolingo: new views

Google is actively expanding the functionality of the Practice learning mode in the Translate service. The latest data obtained during the analysis of APK file version 10.23.29.934758792.2 indicates the development of a new widget called Practice streak for Android devices.

Practice streak widget in Google Translate

The new widget is designed to display information about the daily series of classes on the desktop of a smartphone. According to the developers, such an element of the interface will allow users to immediately see their progress and quickly return to training, simply by clicking on the widget.

Possibilities of learning mode in Google Translate

Launched last year, Practice mode is an AI language learning tool. It offers functions for practicing pronunciation, listening skills and conducting full-fledged dialogues. This makes Google Translate a direct competitor to popular educational platforms such as Duolingo.

Features and access restrictions

It is important to consider several nuances:

  • Availability: Currently, the Practice mode is not available in all countries. In Ukraine, the functionality is not officially supported yet.
  • Technical status: As the information is obtained from the APK file, the feature is under development. Google may make adjustments to its work or cancel the release altogether.

Why it matters

Streak mechanics are a standard for language applications. Duolingo’s Persistence Psychology helps retain audiences: it’s harder for users to drop out when they’re tracking accumulated days of progress. The integration of such a tool in Google Translate is designed to increase user engagement by reminding the need for regular practice through the phone screen.
