Garmin watches: new firmware 15.12 released for Instinct 3 series

Garmin has released a fresh software update for its line of smartwatches, introducing firmware version 15.12 for the Instinct 3 series. The update covers a wide range of models, including the Instinct 3 AMOLED, Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct E, Instinct 3 Tactical and Instinct Crossover AMOLED.

At the moment, the update is being distributed in stages as part of beta testing – about 20% of users have received access to it. The improvements affected both general functionality and specific characteristics of individual models. For example, all versions of Instinct 3 and Instinct E have improved hiking equipment recommendations and fixed a distance calibration issue when running on a treadmill.

What’s new for specific Garmin models

Owners of AMOLED versions received a fix for a bug due to which sleep data was displayed incorrectly in the Morning Report, depending on the selected system language. Instinct Tactical models now support the Xero distance sensor.

For owners of the Instinct 3 Solar and Instinct E watches, the DogTrack Glance function has been optimized, which should now work flawlessly. Additionally, Garmin has fixed a data field display issue that previously plagued users of certain language settings.

Is it worth updating your watch?

Since the firmware is in beta status, Garmin is offering it to a limited number of users. If your watch is working correctly and these features are critical to your training, we recommend waiting for the final stable version. However, bug fixes in data display and calibration make the setup useful for heavy tracking users.
