Full functionality of Office 2019 on macOS will be discontinued
11.06.26
Microsoft Office 2019 for Mac will cease to function fully on July 13, 2026. After that date, users will no longer be able to use the core features of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. The limitation is related to the expiration of the certificate, which is used to confirm the licensing and correct operation of programs in the macOS environment.
End of certification support and change of working conditions
The basis of the changes is Microsoft’s decision not to renew the certificate that ensures the operation of Office 2019 on macOS. The company previously announced the end of support for the package in 2023, while it was assumed that the programs would continue to function without updates. However, the documentation was later revised, and the wording about maintaining full functionality was removed.
The current version of support specifies that users will retain access to their data, but the functionality of the programs will be limited.
What restrictions await users
After the set date, Office 2019 on Mac will retain only the basic ability to open files. Any actions related to creating new documents or editing existing ones will become unavailable. The restrictions will affect the entire set of programs in the package without exception.
In fact, the software will go into a mode in which it can only be used to view previously created files, without the possibility of further work with them.
Alternatives and Upgrading
Users who continue to work with documents in the Microsoft ecosystem are offered a transition to new solutions. Available options include purchasing Office 2024 or using the Microsoft 365 subscription model, which retains full access to all the features of the office programs.
