Enthusiasts bypass Google Health Premium subscription for Fitbit Air
27.06.26
Fitbit Air fitness tracker is considered by experts to be one of the best solutions in its class. However, like most similar devices, users are offered to subscribe to Google Health Premium at a cost of $10 (415 hryvnias) per month to access advanced health statistics. Now enthusiasts have found a way to bypass this limitation using third-party software.
OpenFit and how it works
Italian developer Flavio Adamo created OpenFit – an open source desktop program. Its main goal is to give users access to almost all the information that Google hides behind the Premium subscription paywall.
Important: the program does not hack anything. It works as a desktop-oriented dashboard based on Electron, which simply visualizes the data transmitted from the Google Health system. The program forms an advanced toolbar, displaying statistics and indicators directly from the system.
Particulars of use
According to the author, OpenFit offers an adaptive interface that focuses on the most important metrics for the user. In its current form, the project is more of a technical experiment. The product’s GitHub page is aimed at developers: the installation and operation instructions may seem complicated to the average user.
Versions and further development
The situation is interesting because almost simultaneously with Flavio Adamo, another Italian developer Francesco Oddo presented a program with a similar name. At the moment, the authors are discussing the possibility of combining efforts to improve the product.
Is it worth using OpenFit?
Android Authority experts emphasize that unlike the competitor Whoop, which makes the use of the device extremely limited without a subscription, Fitbit Air is fully functional without Google Health Premium. The use of OpenFit is optional and remains the choice of modern users.
