DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations: add-on details, release date and gameplay features
05.07.26
Bethesda Softworks, together with id Software, has revealed details of the first large-scale story addition for the shooter DOOM: The Dark Ages called Revelations. The DLC will be released on July 7, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
What is known about the Revelations add-on
The add-on offers a full-fledged single-player campaign lasting from 10 to 12 hours. According to the developers, the gameplay structure can be divided into 60% main story and 40% endgame content. This makes Revelations larger than both DOOM Eternal expansions combined.
Gameplay and mechanics features
A key innovation was a weapon called the Chain Spear. It significantly changes the dynamics of combat: it can be used as a grappling hook to move around locations, attract enemies, or make sudden movements. Weapons have a separate upgrade tree for leveling up different statuses.
The level design is inspired by the Metroidvania genre, requiring players to backtrack and solve puzzles to access hidden paths. An important bonus was the reworked maps from the original DOOM 2, built directly into the game. Enemies have also been changed, with the addition of robot knights Buzzsaws and a redesigned Archvile, which now summons waves of demons rather than resurrecting fallen enemies.
Technical aspects of the launch
The release will take place simultaneously on Steam, PlayStation Store and Xbox Marketplace. The PlayStation 5 Pro console includes support for PSSR image upscaling technology, which ensures clearer images during intense combat scenes. Pre-load is available in advance so that users can start playing immediately after the servers are launched.
Add-on cost
For owners of the standard edition, the base price of the Revelations add-on is 800 hryvnia ($19.99). An upgrade to the Premium Edition bundle is available for 1,400 hryvnia ($34.99), and owners of this bundle and the Collector’s Edition will have access to the DLC automatically on release day.
Free Ripatorium 3.0 update
In parallel with the release of the DLC, id Software is releasing a free update Ripatorium 3.0. It adds customization tools to the game, new language presets and an updated code system for the arena mode. Players who complete the main Revelations campaign will unlock three exclusive maps, unique demons, and pre-upgraded weapon loadouts.
