Development of a new DOOM game continues, despite massive layoffs at id Software

The recent wave of layoffs affecting Xbox Game Studios has raised serious concerns among fans about the future of id Software, the legendary creator of DOOM and Quake. There were fears that the studio could be transferred to the status of an auxiliary team (support studio), but current information refutes these speculations.

A new DOOM game is in development

According to Tom Warren from The Verge, the id Software team has no plans to change the direction of its activities. Despite staff reductions, the studio is actively creating a new project in the DOOM universe. At the moment, development is at an early stage, which confirms the continuation of work on our own franchises.

What is known about the fate of id Software

In response to the wave of discussions caused by layoffs, id Software officially stated that the changes affected various departments, but the studio retained a key core of employees. The developers emphasized that the current team size is comparable to the composition that DOOM created in 2016. The studio maintains its ability to develop technology and produce games that meet their high standards.

Expectations and possible announcements

So far, there are practically no official details about the next part of DOOM. The developers have not disclosed the name of the game, setting, gameplay features, or even approximate release dates. Given the early stage of production, fans should be patient. Probably, the first official news will appear in August: studio representatives said that they are looking forward to QuakeCon, where they can share information about their future projects.
