DDR5 RAM from CXMT is officially validated for MSI motherboards

The Chinese company ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has received official confirmation of the compatibility of its RAM modules of the DDR5 standard with the MSI AM5 platform. The manufacturer has released special beta versions of the BIOS, which allow you to significantly increase the limit of stable memory operation on MSI boards.

What does MSI’s new CXMT validation mean?

Microcode updates prepared by MSI China significantly expand the capabilities of working with CXMT RAM. If previously the effective frequency of the modules was limited to approximately 6800 MT/s, the new firmware opens up the potential of using modes up to 8200 MT/s on dual-channel motherboards. This is a critical step for the Chinese manufacturer in its quest to compete in the high-performance components market.

Test results and memory specifications

Testing was conducted using modules from the Chinese brands Lexar and KingBank. Configurations with two slots and motherboards with four DIMM connectors were used for testing.

During tests conducted on a MEG X870E Unify motherboard paired with a Ryzen 7 9700X processor (2x24GB kits) and a MAG B850 MPower with a Ryzen 5 9600X processor (2x16GB kits) the following were recorded

DDR5 CXMT Key Performance Indicators

System type Frequency (MT/s) Notes
Dual-channel boards 8200 MT/s For 24Gb (3GB) modules
Dual-channel boards 8000 MT/s For 16Gb (2GB) modules
Four-channel boards 7200 MT/s Former limit – 6800 MT/s

Nuances of updating and availability

It is important to understand that new firmwares are based on stable BIOS releases, which have added advanced memory overclocking profiles. The software is currently available through the MSI China community and is targeted at the AM5 socket motherboard market. MSI does not rule out expanding the list of supported boards in the future. No information has yet been received about the global release of these updates.

Is it worth choosing CXMT Memory for upgrade?

MSI’s official validation testifies to the improvement of the quality of Chinese components and their ability to work at high speeds, comparable to the top solutions on the market. For enthusiasts and users who use the AM5 platform and are looking for stable memory overclocking, the latest BIOS changes from MSI open access to decent performance indicators. At the moment, this mainly applies to the Chinese regional market.
