Cyberpunk 2077 phenomenon: 40 million copies sold

CD Projekt RED officially announced the achievement of an important milestone: as of July 3, 2026, the sale of Cyberpunk 2077 exceeded the mark of 40 million copies. A stunning result was achieved in less than six years of the project’s existence. Michal Nowakowski, the company’s co-CEO, emphasized that this success proves CD PROJEKT’s ability to create lasting stories that gamers return to years later.

Sales growth statistics

The progress of the project is impressive, even taking into account the difficult start, which was accompanied by technical problems and a large number of bugs. Even at the end of 2025, the studio reported 35 million sold copies. The fact that the game has overtaken The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in terms of the speed of gaining such popularity shows the huge amount of work the developers have done to fix bugs and support the game after release.

What awaits fans in the future

The Polish studio does not stop there and actively develops the universe:

  • Cyberpunk 2: The sequel is in development, the known internal name of the project is Cyberpunk 2. According to data as of February 2026, 149 specialists are working on the game.
  • Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2: The release of the second season of the popular anime series is expected this fall, which traditionally fuels interest in the game.
  • Fan Multiplayer: The community is working on creating a multiplayer mode with its own servers and transport battle mechanics.

The impact of the anime adaptation

The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which was released on Netflix in September 2022, played a special role in the “viability” of the game. Then the flow of players increased fivefold, proving that quality cross-media content affects the commercial success of the game even after some time.
