ChatGPT learned to work on a schedule: OpenAI introduced Scheduled Tasks
19.06.26
OpenAI has started implementing an updated task management system in ChatGPT. A new tool called Scheduled Tasks allows users to create reminders, run regular scheduled actions, and receive notifications of important changes without having to constantly contact the chatbot manually.
In fact, the company is taking another step towards transforming ChatGPT from an ordinary assistant for dialogues into a service capable of independently monitoring events and executing predefined scenarios.
What the new Scheduled Tasks system can do
With the help of Scheduled Tasks, users can instruct ChatGPT to perform both one-time and regular tasks. For example, the service can remind you about meetings, control the execution of repeated actions, track changes on the Internet or check connected applications for important updates.
A separate section has appeared on the sidebar for task management in the ChatGPT interface. It displays all active scripts, their next run time, and execution history. Users can pause tasks, resume work, change settings, or completely remove unnecessary processes.
When creating tasks, a flexible choice of execution time is available. Scripts can be run both at a specific hour and in broader time frames, such as morning, afternoon, or evening.
ChatGPT will be able to track changes on its own
One of the key features of Scheduled Tasks is the ability to monitor information. The user can instruct ChatGPT to monitor certain events, changes on sites or updates in connected services.
In such cases, the system independently checks the data sources and sends a message only when it detects a really significant change. This avoids constant manual control and reduces the number of redundant messages.
According to OpenAI, this approach makes the interaction with the chatbot more proactive: the service does not just respond to requests, but independently informs the user about important events.
Pulse will be completely disabled
Along with the launch of Scheduled Tasks, OpenAI is phasing out the Pulse feature, which was previously responsible for proactive notifications and automated actions within ChatGPT.
The company said the new system will completely replace the existing mechanism. Pulse will be permanently removed two weeks after the update starts rolling out.
OpenAI clarifies that Scheduled Tasks currently have certain limitations. Tasks cannot be started more than once an hour, and scripts that the user does not use for a long time are automatically put into pause mode.
Who has already gained access
The new function has already started to appear for users of paid ChatGPT tariffs. Scheduled Tasks are available to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plan subscribers.
OpenAI believes that the update should make automated scripts easier to use, more reliable, and provide users with additional tools to manage their day-to-day tasks directly within ChatGPT.
