Audi A8 is being discontinued

Audi’s flagship sedan can no longer be ordered on the brand’s market. The model has disappeared from the German configurator, and the company has confirmed that orders have been closed.

According to Audi spokesman Marcel Bestle, orders for the car could be placed until February 18. After this date, orders were officially closed.

Orders for the Audi A8 in Germany are closed

The further availability of the Audi A8 now depends on stock levels and the situation in individual markets. The company has not announced an exact date for the end of production.

However, the cessation of orders in Germany may indicate that the life cycle of the current generation of the model is coming to an end.

The current version of the sedan – the Audi A8 generation D5 – has been produced since 2017. At the end of 2021, the car underwent restyling, but the update could not significantly increase sales. The model, as before, was inferior to its main competitors – the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

As part of the update, an extended version of the Audi Horch A8 for the Chinese market also appeared.

The future of the flagship sedan remains in question

Audi does not rule out that the model may have a successor. A brand representative said that the company will provide additional details about a possible successor later.

At the same time, it is not yet known whether the fifth-generation project has received official approval. The lack of prototypes on road tests also suggests that the new A8 is unlikely to appear in the coming years.

According to Automobilwoche, back in October, Audi representatives talked about finding a platform for a potential successor. Another restyling of the current generation was ruled out due to the tightening of the environmental requirements of the Euro-7 standard.

If the new flagship model does enter the market, there could be a noticeable time gap between the generations. At the same time, competitors continue to develop their luxury sedans. For example, the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, according to preliminary data, may appear by around 2029 and will be offered with both internal combustion engines and electric power plants.
