AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 received 16 cores and 128 GB of memory for working with AI models

AMD brings to the market a new solution for professionals who work with artificial intelligence and resource-intensive computing. The company has opened pre-orders for a mini-computer built on the basis of the flagship processor Ryzen AI Max+ 395, known under the code name Strix Halo. Despite its compact size, the device is positioned as a full-fledged workstation capable of handling the launch of large language models, data processing and professional development of AI applications.
The cost of the novelty in the USA is about 4,000 dollars, which puts it in the category of specialized systems for developers, researchers and corporate users.
Bet on local artificial intelligence
The AI market has changed significantly over the past few years. If earlier most complex calculations were performed in the cloud, today more and more companies and developers are trying to run neural networks directly on local devices. This makes it possible to reduce dependence on third-party services, increase the level of data confidentiality and reduce the costs of renting cloud facilities.
It was for such tasks that the new AMD mini-PC was created. The manufacturer emphasizes not so much traditional performance as the system’s ability to effectively work with modern artificial intelligence models without connecting to remote servers.
The Strix Halo processor became the basis of the system

The central element of the device is the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 — one of AMD’s most productive processors of the new generation. The chip is built on the Zen 5 architecture and includes 16 computing cores with support for 32 data processing streams.
This margin of performance allows the system to be used for various tasks — from software development and virtualization to training machine learning models and processing large amounts of information.
However, the main feature of the platform is not only the central processor. The Strix Halo family was created as a hybrid solution, where processing and graphics resources are as closely integrated as possible with each other to accelerate AI workloads.
The graphics subsystem is focused on calculations
The platform includes a Radeon 8060S graphics core. Unlike traditional integrated video accelerators, it is designed not only for working with graphics, but also for performing computational operations related to artificial intelligence.
Modern neural networks actively use the capabilities of graphics processors for parallel data processing. Therefore, the presence of productive integrated graphics allows you to run many AI tasks without the need to install a separate discrete video card.
For users, this means the ability to get the performance of a full-fledged workstation in a case that takes up minimal space on the desktop.
128 GB of memory is the key advantage of the system
The most unusual characteristic of the new computer was the amount of RAM. The system is equipped with 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 – an indicator that is rarely found even among professional workstations.
Another feature is that the memory is used according to a unified scheme. Both the processor and the graphics subsystem access the same common pool of resources without copying data between separate memory blocks.
This is important for working with large language models. Many modern AI systems require tens of gigabytes of RAM just to load the model. As a result, the device is capable of running complex neural network projects locally, without resorting to server solutions costing tens of thousands of dollars.
Compact body without serious limitations

Despite the productive filling, the dimensions of the computer are only 149×149×43 mm. In fact, it is a system that takes up no more space than an ordinary book.
At the same time, the manufacturer did not sacrifice connectivity options. The device received three USB-C ports, a modern HDMI 2.1 video output and an Ethernet network interface with a bandwidth of up to 10 Gbit/s.
The presence of a high-speed network connection indicates the professional orientation of the system. Such an interface is in demand when working with remote data stores, corporate networks and distributed computing environments.
Modern Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless communication standards are also supported.
Windows and Linux available immediately
Buyers will be able to choose one of two configurations. The first comes with Windows 11 Pro and is aimed at corporate customers and professionals working in the Microsoft ecosystem. The second version is powered by Linux, which remains one of the most popular platforms among developers, researchers, and machine learning specialists.
This approach allows you to use the device almost immediately after purchase, regardless of the user’s preferences and set of software tools.
A new stage in the development of compact workstations
The appearance of such systems shows how the market for high-performance computers is changing. If a few years ago, powerful workstations or servers with several video cards were required to run large AI models, now some of these tasks can be performed on compact desktop devices.
AMD is betting on the growing interest in local artificial intelligence and offers a solution that combines professional-level performance, a large amount of memory and a relatively small body size. The market will show how popular this approach will be, but interest in devices capable of running modern neural networks without cloud infrastructure continues to grow rapidly.
