Official: Qualcomm to increase processor prices starting September 1
01.08.26
Qualcomm has confirmed information regarding an upcoming price increase for its products. CEO Cristiano Amon officially announced this during the company’s Q3 2026 financial results call held on July 29. In a conversation with CNBC, he emphasized: “Costs have gone up, and therefore prices will also go up.”
Why is Qualcomm raising processor prices?
The price increase will affect a wide range of Qualcomm products starting September 1, 2026. Management attributes this decision to cost inflation in key manufacturing sectors: wafer fabrication, memory production, as well as assembly and advanced component packaging processes.
The impact of memory shortages on prices
Cristiano Amon specifically highlighted the situation in the memory market, which has become the primary factor putting pressure on prices in the short term. Rising component costs are forcing consumers to either choose lower-tier premium devices or hold onto their old smartphones for longer. Amon described the current changes in gross margin as a temporary measure driven by high production costs, which the company intends to address through pricing adjustments.
Market forecast: temporary difficulties or the new normal?
Although rumors of an impending price hike had been circulating in the industry throughout July, the company’s financial report has put an end to the speculation. Qualcomm management insists that the current market situation is short-term, although no precise data on how long the increased price list for chips will remain in effect has been provided yet.
