ZTE has unveiled the U25 portable router, designed for users seeking efficient mobile internet connectivity. The device utilizes 5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) technology, striking a balance between data speeds and power consumption.
What Is 5G RedCap and Why It Matters
The 5G RedCap standard is a streamlined 5G architecture developed specifically for devices that do not require gigabit speeds. Thanks to this optimization, the power consumption of the ZTE U25 is reduced by 10–20% compared to standard 5G modems. The technology shows significant progress over 4G: theoretical download speeds have increased by 50%, and latency has been reduced by 70%. In real-world usage, the router delivers up to 226 Mbps for downloads and up to 120 Mbps for uploads.

Battery Life and Network Capabilities
The ZTE U25 is equipped with a removable 3050 mAh battery, allowing for up to 8 hours of continuous operation. The removable design is a major advantage, as it allows users to swap a depleted battery for a charged one, eliminating the need for a power bank. The model operates on Wi-Fi 6 networks at 2.4 GHz and can provide internet access to up to 32 devices simultaneously.

Pricing
The router features a minimalist housing measuring 108 x 60 x 19 mm and weighs just 121 grams. The device is available in black and white, uses a nano-SIM card, and is managed via the official ZTE app.
The ZTE U25 represents an interesting compromise between full-speed 5G and the energy efficiency of simpler mobile devices.
