New Mercedes GLA electric: up to 657 km range and the nuances of the 800V charging system

Mercedes-Benz is opening a new chapter in the development of compact electric vehicles. In November 2026, the completely redesigned third-generation GLA, built on the innovative MMA (Mercedes Modular Architecture), will go on sale. The electric car has grown to 4.57 meters in length, which has increased interior space and added a practical 107-liter front trunk (“frunk”) for charging cables.

Technical specifications of the new model look promising. The GLA 250+ version with an 85 kWh battery (NMC) offers up to 657 kilometers of range on the WLTP cycle and 200 kW of power. The all-wheel-drive GLA 350 4Matic delivers 260 kW (354 hp) and is capable of towing trailers weighing up to 2 tons. Thanks to the 800-volt system, the battery charges at fast stations at up to 320 kW, replenishing from 10 to 80% in just 21 minutes.

However, you will have to pay extra for progressive technologies. The standard configuration lacks the necessary voltage converter for 400-volt charging stations — it will cost an additional €654.50 (approx. 28,350 UAH / $705). The same applies to the AC onboard charger: the base power is limited to 11 kW, and upgrading to 22 kW will cost another €654.50 (approx. 28,350 UAH / $705).

The entry-level GLA 200 model is equipped with a 58 kWh LFP battery. The maximum range in this version is limited to 445 km. It is worth noting that LFP cells are more susceptible to performance degradation in freezing temperatures: in such conditions, the range can drop to 300 km. The price of the model starts from €46,169.62 (approx. 1,999,000 UAH / $49,700), but with options, the price can easily exceed €65,000 (approx. 2,815,000 UAH / $70,000).
