Subnautica 2 will be released on May 14: survival in the ocean is now not alone
04.05.26
Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced the exact launch date for Subnautica 2 in the early access format. The continuation of the iconic underwater survival game not only takes players to a new world, but also significantly changes the very philosophy of the game: single exploration gives way to team interaction, and the usual formula to a more complex and variable structure of passage.
A new planet and the evolution of survival
Players will have to find themselves on a completely new oceanic planet, where they are sent by Alterra Corporation. As before, the mission quickly gets out of control, and instead of a research expedition, the struggle for survival in an aggressive and little-explored environment begins.
At the same time, Subnautica 2 maintains the foundation of the series: exploring the depths, gathering resources, crafting and building bases. However, these elements have now been redesigned to take into account the more complex structure of the world. Locations become deeper and more varied, and progression is less linear, encouraging experimentation and repeat forays.
Cooperative as a key change
The main shift in Subnautica 2 is full support for cooperative. For the first time in the history of the series, the game is designed from the beginning to be played together for a group of 2-4 people.
This affects the entire gameplay:
- base construction turns into a collective process with task allocation
- exploring the world requires coordination and planning
- resource management becomes part of team strategy
Unlike the first part, where the feeling of isolation dominated, here there is a factor of interaction: players do not just survive, but build a joint system of actions in conditions of uncertainty.
Technologies and platforms
Early access starts on May 14 on several platforms:
- Steam
- Epic Games Store
- Microsoft Store
- Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles
In addition, the project will be available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers, which expands the potential audience at launch.
Publisher and development
Despite questions that have previously arisen over the publisher’s mentions on Steam, Krafton continues to play a key role in the project. According to developers Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the collaboration covers both marketing and pre-launch.
