SourceNext DIGI+: How to turn a laptop into a three-screen workstation

Today’s professionals, from digital nomads to analysts, are constantly faced with a lack of screen space on laptops. The DIGI+ 14-inch Dual Extended Display system from the Japanese developer SourceNext was created specifically for those who want to turn an ordinary laptop into a full-fledged flight control center.

DIGI+ is a system of two 14.1-inch IPS monitors with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). The design does not require making changes to the laptop itself. The main adjustable frame is attached to the cover of the device, and compatibility is declared for models with a screen diagonal of 13 to 16 inches.

Design features and ergonomics

The main difficulty of portable systems is the load on the loops of the main device. SourceNext engineers envisioned a solution: a rear support with smooth adjustment of the angle of inclination up to 180 degrees is built into the system, which takes the main burden of the structure.

The weight of the device is about 1.6 kg. Considering the weight of the laptop itself, the carrying case can weigh 3-4 kg. The dimensions of the device when folded are 383 x 219 x 36 mm.

Connectivity and flexibility of settings

The system provides a high level of freedom thanks to well-thought-out hinges: the left screen rotates 330 degrees, and the right – 270 degrees. It is convenient not only for work, but also for demonstrating content to colleagues sitting opposite. The following are used for switching:

  • Two USB Type-C ports for power and signal transmission.
  • One Mini HDMI connector.

Price and availability

The project started on the crowdfunding platform Makuake, where it attracted more than 13 million yen (about 3,274,000 hryvnias or $80,000). The success of the campaign confirmed the demand for a solution to eliminate endless switching between tabs.

At the moment, the DIGI+ device (model DGP-DMD1401) is available at a retail price of $247 (10,000 UAH). With the expansion of the workspace up to three screens in one portable set, this is an investment in workflow efficiency.
