Honor Robot Phone received a rotating camera and ARRI technologies

Honor continues to experiment with its flagships and presents the ambitious Robot Phone project, created to bring mobile video recording to the Hollywood level. Global Marketing Director Guan Haitao unveiled the device’s camera interface, where the key feature was the advanced Master Cinema mode.

This feature was developed in collaboration with experts from ARRI, the legendary manufacturer of professional film equipment used to film most Hollywood blockbusters. The goal of the development is to provide users with professional-level tools without the need to involve a bulky film crew.

Master Cinema mode

The Master Cinema mode simulates the work of professional optics, providing honest depth of field, soft background blur and automatic focus change between objects. The device shoots with a cinematic frequency of 25 frames per second to give the image a branded effect. In addition, users can change the focus point and degree of blur right after shooting on their mobile device.

Characteristics and mechanical suspension

The main hardware feature of the model is a built-in mechanical gimbal for the camera. The lens physically rotates to automatically track the subject, providing mechanical stabilization and panning at the operator’s crane level. The main camera module received a resolution of 200 MP, ultra-wide-angle – 50 MP, and the periscope module is also equipped with a 200 MP sensor.

The integration of a full-fledged mechanical suspension into the smartphone body required engineers to solve complex tasks in the layout of components, while the manufacturer did not compromise on the resolution of the sensors and the quality of the optics. The combination of ARRI’s algorithms and the rotating lens makes the camera a unique tool for mobile content creators.

Release date and price

The official announcement and presentation of the technology will take place on July 28 at the HONOR Imaging Technology Launch Event. The full-fledged start of sales of the innovative smartphone is planned for August.

The price of the Honor Robot Phone is $2,200 (98,000 UAH). Despite the premium price tag, on the very first day of accepting pre-orders, the device set records among all flagships of the brand.
