Flagships of the new generation: iQOO and OnePlus are preparing smartphones based on 2nm architecture

The mobile device industry has reached a point where even the recent transition to the 3nm process begins to be perceived as an intermediate stage. Manufacturers are already actively developing next-level solutions — 2nm architecture, which should change the balance between performance, heat generation and autonomy in premium smartphones.

Fewer nanometers, more efficiency

Reducing the technical process to 2 nanometers is not just an evolution in the characteristics of chips, but an attempt to radically reassemble the very principle of operation of mobile processors. Reducing the size of transistors allows you to place them more densely, increase computational efficiency and reduce energy consumption, but at the same time it makes extremely high demands on architecture and cooling.

According to preliminary estimates, such platforms are able to either increase computing power by 10-15% while maintaining current energy consumption, or reduce energy consumption by 25-30% without losing performance. For smartphones, where autonomy and temperature have long been limiting factors, this is a fundamental step forward.

Formation of a new generation of flagships

Key market players, including iQOO and OnePlus, are joining the development of devices based on 2nm solutions. These brands have traditionally acted as pioneers within their ecosystems, testing new hardware platforms before mass adoption.

Redistribution of power in the chipset market

The development of 2nm technologies is intensifying the competition between the two main players of mobile platforms – Qualcomm and MediaTek. The competition is gradually shifting from pure performance to more complex indicators: energy efficiency, stability under long-term load and thermal behavior of the system.

In fact, the market is moving from a race of frequencies to a race of architectures, where it is not only the peak power that matters, but also how long the device can hold it without degrading performance.

Value for users and the market

The appearance of smartphones on 2nm architecture can change the very perception of flagships. Devices of the new generation will have a chance to work significantly more stably under load, heat up less and use the battery charge more efficiently without increasing its physical volume.

As a result, the flagship segment can shift the emphasis from “maximum performance on paper” to real performance in everyday scenarios — from games to tasks using artificial intelligence and multimedia.
