CATL Shenxing 3: fully charge an electric car in just 6 minutes

The world leader in the production of batteries, CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited), presented its latest development – the Shenxing 3rd Gen battery. This novelty is able to fundamentally change the market of electric cars, offering a record speed of energy replenishment. The official presentation took place as part of the CATL Tech Day event.

CatL Shenxing Third Generation Battery Review

The main advantage of the 3rd generation Shenxing was ultra-fast charging, which actually brings the process of refueling an electric car closer to traditional gasoline refueling. Thanks to innovative chemistry and architecture, downtime at charging stations is reduced several times.

Technical characteristics and charging speed

The new development demonstrates impressive indicators, confirmed during tests:

  • Charging from 10% to 80% in 3 minutes 44 seconds;
  • Charging from 10% to 98% in 6 minutes 27 seconds;
  • Internal resistance is only 0.25 milliohms (50% lower than the industry average).

Technical parameters of CATL Shenxing 3

It is based on LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry, which is considered safer and cheaper to manufacture compared to counterparts using nickel and cobalt.

Features of operation at low temperatures

One of the main problems of electric cars has always been the loss of efficiency in cold climates. Shenxing 3rd Gen solves this issue. Even at an extreme temperature of -30°C, the battery can be charged to 98% in 9 minutes. This became possible thanks to the introduction of our own self-heating technology and multi-point temperature measurement.

Innovation and durability

CATL engineers implemented a new cooling system, increasing the heat dissipation efficiency by 20%. Durability is an important aspect: even after 1000 cycles of intense ultra-fast charging, the battery retains more than 90% of its resource. In addition, the company offered an integrated solution combining fast charging and a quick battery replacement system.

Fierce competition is already unfolding on the market. CATL, which controls more than 48% of the global traction battery market, pits its product against BYD’s recently introduced Blade Battery 2.0, once again asserting its technological leadership.

Is it worth buying

The appearance of Shenxing 3rd Gen batteries removes one of the last barriers before the mass transition to electric vehicles — the fear of long charging. Due to its resistance to cold and high resource, this technology will become the gold standard for new generations of electric cars in the coming years.

FAQ
