Apple introduces total control over children’s devices

Apple introduced changes in the tools of control for parents who decided to ensure the protection of the child while using the gadget. The updates are designed to help adults better see, filter and coordinate the actions of younger family members on Apple’s corporate devices. The main functions of the platform are ubiquitous intelligent screening of questionable content and blocking that can be removed in one click by requesting parental permission.

A new complex of technological solutions is being developed by the corporation with an emphasis on automatic control and transparency. The task of Apple’s algorithms is the formation of a digital airbag. A tablet or smartphone recognizes the level of privacy and protects the psyche, which has not been strengthened, from cyber attacks, inappropriate Internet sites or shocking content. By activating these options once, caregivers can fully monitor and coordinate leisure time without compromising the overall convenience of device management.

System characteristics and filter settings

The system now allows parents to set up dedicated, secure children’s Apple accounts. Filtering is adjusted automatically throughout the OS based on the child’s year of birth. By default, profiles are composed of two types of vulnerable age:

• for children under the age of 13;
• for minors under the age of 18.

These separate options will prevent children from accessing adult entertainment portals and imposing products from branded App Stores.

If a minor wants to visit a blocked website, the platform will apply the blocking feature “Request to view” (Request to view). You can visit the portal only if an instant remote click of approval is received on the parent’s device. The same automated script is used for the confirmation system of software purchases – paid applications, simulators or in-game items.

FaceTime settings and security

More complex and painstaking protection is deployed around direct digital correspondence: FaceTime calls and letters in Messages:

• Network communication analysis: The family is empowered to decide interactively which contacts are allowed to call, and which suspicious strangers the device will protect automatically;
• Incoming media control: Chat video that contains scenes of violence, sexual expressions, vulgarity or unacceptable acts will be instantly blurred until the moment of authorized display.

Innovation in the structure of “Screen Time” limits

The screen timer restrictions panel has given way to detailed schedules for the week. Control includes the following parameters:

• Distribution of timings — separately for launching video players and online movies, social media messengers and the gaming sector;
• Dosage timer is associated with school and academic schedules on weekdays or with reduced hours on weekends.

The concept of healthy sessions of the screen timer was prepared by Apple with the close assistance of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), having received strong medical and socio-psychological conclusions. The problem of finding teenagers in front of digital content has escalated around the planet, drawing advocates of radical filtering into the debate over regulation of Internet visits at the top. For independent content creators, the company will provide APIs that facilitate manual checks in utilities in the early phase of creation to avoid fines from regional authorities.

Update release date

The company announced new standards in the field of protection of minors as part of the WWDC 2026 event. The functionality will be distributed with future updates of the embedded OS ecosystem in the fall after full beta testing of software versions by developers and users.
