Apple Explores 200MP Sensor for Upcoming iPhone Models

iPhone

While high-resolution 200MP sensors have become common in the Android ecosystem, Apple has maintained a more conservative approach. However, recent reports indicate that the Cupertino giant might finally be ready to join the megapixel race.

According to insights from Digital Chat Station on Weibo, citing supply chain insiders, Apple is currently putting a large 200MP sensor through its paces for a future iPhone release.

The tech giant is reportedly testing a 1/1.12-inch sensor, which mirrors the hardware expected in the upcoming Oppo Find X9 Ultra. This specific component is being evaluated for use in the primary wide-angle camera rather than the zoom lens.

While this high-end sensor is slated for commercial availability by next year, its presence in the immediate next-generation iPhone remains unconfirmed.

Industry competition is heating up, as the vivo X300 Ultra is already set to feature a dual 200MP configuration. That device will utilize a Sony LYTIA-901 1/1.12-inch main sensor alongside a Samsung HP0 periscope module.
