Amazon invests $25 billion in Anthropic AI

Amazon has announced a new round of financing for Anthropic, which according to its structure could become one of the largest in the artificial intelligence industry. The basic volume of investments will be $5 billion, but if pre-determined conditions are met, the amount may increase by another $20 billion.

Long-term strategy instead of a one-time deal

This is Amazon’s third major investment round in Anthropic. Previously, the company invested $4 billion each in 2023 and 2024. The current step demonstrates not just financial support, but a systemic strengthening of the partnership, which is designed for years to come.

That is, it is about forming a close technological connection, where investments directly strengthen infrastructural cooperation.

Infrastructure as a key resource

Under the terms of the agreement, Anthropic will continue to build and train its models based on Amazon Web Services infrastructure. A special role is given to proprietary Trainium chips, which Amazon promotes as an alternative to traditional GPUs for machine learning tasks.

At the same time, Amazon itself plans to invest more than $100 billion in the development of AWS over the next decade, which underlines the scale of its ambitions in the segment of cloud computing and AI.

Colossal computing power

A separate item of the agreement is the provision of up to 5 gigawatts of computing resources for Anthropic’s needs. This amount of power is typical for the largest data centers and is necessary for training and operation of new generation models that require larger calculations.

Claude as part of the Amazon ecosystem

The key direction of cooperation will be the deeper integration of the Claude AI platform into the AWS ecosystem. Users will be able to work with it through a single interface, without additional stages of authorization, which greatly simplifies the introduction of technologies into the corporate environment.
