Samsung leads TV market for 20 years
10.03.26
Samsung Electronics announced that it has been the world’s No. 1 TV market by revenue for 20 consecutive years. The manufacturer has held the lead in this category since 2006.
Market share and position in the premium segment
According to the analytical company Omdia, in 2025 Samsung controlled 29.1% of the global TV market.
The company maintains a particularly strong position in the premium segment. In the category of devices priced from $2,500, the manufacturer’s share reached 54.3%. This was achieved due to models based on Neo QLED, OLED and so-called lifestyle TVs.
In the segment of devices priced from $1,500, Samsung’s share was 52.2%.
Key stages in the development of Samsung TVs
The company took its first positions in the market in 2006 after the release of the Bordeaux LCD TV design.
In 2009, the manufacturer actively promoted the transition to LED backlighting, which allowed the production of thinner and more energy-efficient TVs.
Later, the company focused on the development of software capabilities and device design. In 2011, Samsung introduced the Smart TV line, and in 2015 it began to develop the direction of TVs focused on integration into the interior.
New display technologies
In the following years, the company continued to introduce new image technologies. In 2017, Samsung began promoting TVs based on QLED.
In 2018, models with 8K resolution were introduced, and in 2020 the company announced the development of screens based on MicroLED technology.
A separate direction was the The Frame line, introduced in 2017. These TVs are positioned as interior elements and can display digital works in standby mode.
