Google Translate now uses Gemini for more accurate and natural translations
31.03.26
Google has updated its translation service by integrating Gemini technology, allowing users to get translations that are not only accurate but also natural and meaningful. Texts are now rendered in a way that conveys the meaning, style, and nuance of the original, rather than just replacing words.
What’s new
Gemini analyzes the context of entire sentences rather than isolated words, enabling correct translation of idioms, expressions, and complex phrases. Translations have become clearer and more readable, reducing the risk of distortion that used to occur with standard machine translation.
Availability
Currently, the update is rolling out in the US and India, supporting translations from English to nearly 20 languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, and German. All features are available in both the mobile app and the web version of Google Translate.
Live translation and voice features
The service has introduced a new live translation beta, which allows users to hear text in another language in real time through headphones. This greatly simplifies communication and makes conversations more natural while preserving tone and meaning.
Language learning tools
The update also expands language learning features: users can track their progress, receive guidance based on practice, and set personal goals. The service displays consecutive study days and helps maintain a consistent learning routine.
