Squadron 42 Delayed to 2027 to Avoid GTA 6 Clash

Реліз Squadron 42 перенесли на 2027 год из-за выхода GTA 6

The development of the ambitious space project Squadron 42 is dragging on: it has been revealed that the game’s release has been pushed to the second quarter of 2027. Christopher Roberts, CEO of Cloud Imperium Games, confirmed the decision, citing competition with the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI as the primary reason.

The Reason for the Delay

Initially, the release of the single-player Star Citizen spin-off was planned for 2026, but the global marketing hype surrounding GTA 6 forced the studio to adjust its timeline. Roberts emphasized: “I don’t want the game we’ve been working on for twelve years to stay in the shadows. We started development back in 2014, and it would be reckless to compete with the most anticipated release in the industry.”

Game Features

Squadron 42 is a massive single-player project set in the Star Citizen universe. The story begins in 2945, with the player taking on the role of a rookie pilot joining the 42nd Squadron of the U.S. Navy. The main objective is to participate in an intense campaign and confront pirates during a major interstellar conflict.

Funding and Development

It is worth noting that the project is unprecedented in terms of funding. To date, Star Citizen has raised over $1,040,899,381. It is important to understand that despite such an impressive sum, none of the Cloud Imperium Games titles have officially been released yet.

Important Dates

  • October 9 and 10 — limited showcase for backers and content creators.
  • Second quarter of 2027 — target window for the final version of the game.

After twelve years of development, Squadron 42 has been given a little more time to take the stage when it truly has something to say. The decision to step away from GTA 6 looks both cautious and symbolic: even a project of this scale acknowledges the power of the shadow cast by the new Grand Theft Auto. Now, Cloud Imperium Games faces the difficult task of turning years of anticipation and massive financial investments into a game that can justify player attention without the help of the Star Citizen brand name.
