AMD introduced Ryzen 7 7700X3D and brought back the legendary Ryzen 7 5800X3D

AMD releases gaming Ryzen 7 770 5800X3D for AM4

AMD has officially announced the launch of two high-performance gaming processors with innovative 3D V-Cache technology, costing up to $350. As part of the expansion of the current line, a completely new AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D processor, designed for the modern AM5 platform, was presented. At the same time, the company decided to resume sales of the legendary Ryzen 7 5800X3D chip for the classic AM4 socket, the production of which was previously discontinued.

The decision to release new affordable processors with 3D V-Cache technology is aimed at strengthening the brand’s position in the budget and mid-budget gaming segments. 3D V-Cache technology provides a significant increase in the frame rate (FPS) in games due to a significant increase in the volume of cache memory of the third level. By releasing new solutions, AMD takes care of both the users of the new AM5 platform and the millions of gamers who still remain on the AM4 socket and plans to make an affordable system upgrade.

Technical characteristics of AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D and Ryzen 7 5800X3D

The presented novelties have remarkable parameters for game loads thanks to a well-thought-out micro-architecture and a large cache.

Ryzen 7 7700X3D (AM5) specifications:

  • Number of cores / threads: 8 cores and 16 threads
  • Heat package (TDP): 120 W
  • Total cache size: 104 MB
  • Maximum clock frequency: up to 4.5 GHz
  • Platform: AM5 (socket support extended until at least 2029)

Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition (AM4) specifications:

  • Number of cores / threads: 8 cores and 16 threads
  • Heat package (TDP): 105 W
  • Total cache size: 100 MB
  • Maximum clock frequency: up to 4.5 GHz
  • Platform: AM4 (anniversary release in honor of the 10th anniversary of architecture)

Release date and price

You won’t have to wait long for processors to arrive in stores. The schedule for the release of new gaming chips looks like this:

  • The Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition for AM4 motherboards will go on sale on June 25.
  • The new Ryzen 7 7700X3D processor for the AM5 platform will be available for purchase starting from July 16.

AMD has set a very aggressive price tag for both models, which makes them extremely attractive solutions in the price-performance ratio:

  • The official recommended price of Ryzen 7 7700X3D is $329 (approximately UAH 13,520).
  • The price of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition at the start of sales will be $349 (approximately UAH 14,340).

Version differences

The choice between new products depends on your available hardware configuration and budget.

Ryzen 7 7700X3D for AM5 is optimal if you are assembling a system from scratch or moving from old architectures with a complete replacement of components. The AM5 platform will remain relevant until 2029 and uses the high-speed DDR5 RAM standard. By choosing this processor for $329, you’ll get a modern technology stack with great future-proofing.

At the same time, the revived Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition for $349 is designed exclusively for gamers who already have an AM4 socket motherboard (eg B350/B450/B550 or X370/X470/X57DR) and RAM. This chip will allow you to radically increase the gaming potential of your PC without the need to spend on the expensive purchase of a new system board and memory sticks of the DDR5 standard. This is the best way to extend the life cycle of your AM4 socket based PC.
